HAMM has seriously outgrown our current location in Courtenay. The museum portion of HAMM has received hundred of artefacts to honour visitor's loved ones since TAP opened up HAMM full time in 2013. For years we have been renting various spaces to house the museum as situations with each preceding facility created a variety of challenges in which we were forced to move. Our current location is no exception.
Recent changes by the City of Courtenay have resulted in the neighbourhood, where HAMM is located, being visually unattractive and unsafe to the general public.
Our supporters and visitors perceived feeling of danger to public health and safety has seriously put the Veterans Memorial in extreme jeopardy of closing in September 2026.
It is time that HAMM ends the constant renting of facilities with challenges out our control in order to continue our great work.
HAMM has always prided itself to be supported by the public, government grants, and corporate sponsorships so that we can continue to remain operational and available to the Canadian public. Now we need your support more than ever.
All donations over $200 qualify for a tax receipt.

We have found the ideal property nearby in the Village of Cumberland, which will give us, at minimum, seven times the floor space we currently have. It will also allow us to have a separate library and research room, a small public events room, high security, and in-house workshop for our staff to build even more great exhibits and mobile displays for our traveling exhibit unit. It will also allow us to begin Veterans services programming and greater school outreach.
Our challenge, however, is we need to raise at least $3,500,000 to purchase the building which includes some seismic upgrades and increased accessiblity to the second floor exhibit rooms and increased accessiblity for special needs throughout our new facility. A solar panel array on the roof will make our hydro usage more sustainable.
The Buiding is currently off the market, but we have communcated to the owners that we want the building. They are continuing with their plans to restore the exterior of the building and prepare the property for relisting in March or April of 2026. We need to move fast.
Please help put HAMM in this Heritage Building!
