"Ordinary Seaman Wallace Waddell Laing who was reported missing on August 21, while serving on H.M.C.S. Alberni, is now been presumed dead, according to word received by his parents Mr. & Mrs. John A. and Mary M. Laing, Winnipeg, Manitoba. OS W. W. Laing enlisted with R.C.N.V.R. in July 1943, trained at Winnipeg, Vancouver Island, Cornwallis and St. Hyacinthe. Born in Winnipeg and attended General Wolfe and Gordon Bell Schools and was active in sports. Prior to enlistment he was employed by the Canada Car at Fort William, and was active in scouting and Y.M.C.A. activities."
