I am the granddaughter of a crew member who served on the Alberni. I am proud to add his name to the list to take his deserving place amongst his friends. He was a coder on the ship and has told me stories of his escapades with fellow crew members. My only sadness is that he never saw this wonderful site. He was an extremely proud man and cherished his memories of his time on the Alberni. He would have thought very highly of your site.
His name was CYRIL GEORGE BADGER (known fondly as 'Taffy'). He came from Cardiff in South Wales, United Kingdom. He was transferred from the ship he was on to the Alberni. I am still trying to locate these details, but the story is that he was transferred to the Alberni after he had his tonsils out in Canada and missed his Royal Navy ship, which left without him! This is how he came to be on the Alberni. He served as coder on the Alberni until approx June 1944 when he was transferred back to the Royal Navy for the D Day landings. He thus miraculously escaped the downfall of the Alberni, and lived to tell his tale.
I know he had a friend Fred Hulme as I have a book here that Fred sent him and wrote in "To Taffy, an old shipmate, Happiness, Good Health and Good Luck, Fred Hulme"
